Colours, Flavours and their Consequences 5p

The below is for last time this course ran. In the period vt07/ht08 a large part of this course will be given in the context of Lund HEP-EST, see the HEP-EST course list as part of the the standard model and extensions (SME) 5p course there.

Introduction meeting Friday October 29 2004 at 13.15, immediately followed by the first lecture. Thereafter lectures/exercises suggested Friday 13.15-15.00.

Place: seminarroom D, second floor of the house of the Department of Theoretical Physics, Sölvegatan 14A. If you come through the glass corridor from the Physics main building, go up half a level and in through the (normally) closed door to the right.

Language: in English if there are non-Swedish-speaking present, else in Swedish. Exercises and examination in either.

Other: We ask you to contact us if you plan to participate in the course but cannot come to the first meeting, with info on times when you are already booked up, so we can take this into consideration for any adjustments of times. All participants with a (regularly checked) e-mail account are asked to send us a short message about this (e.g. to bijnens@thep.lu.se), so that we more easily can distribute any further information.

Examination: Written and oral, expected just before Easter 2005. Written part as hand-in exercises.

Prerequisites: This course demands FYS230 or equivalent knowledge. It is also appropriate to know the basics of field theory. A general understanding of Feynman diagrams/rules will be very helpful.

Textbook:
We don't really use a textbook. The various parts and pieces of the course come from very different sources many available on the web or notes will be handed out. The specific weblinks are:

- Some introductory lectures about sum rules: de Rafael's Les Houches lectures and review by Colangelo and Khodjamirian.
- A lurid description of CP violation is I. Bigi, hep-ph/0411138.
- For heavy quarks we use very much the Babar Physics Handbook
- The sum rules and heavy quarks can be found reviewed in I. Bigi, M. Shifman and N. Uraltsev, hep-ph/9703290.
- An overview of CP violation and B physics is J.P. Silva, hep-ph/0410351
- A variety of ChPT sources is listed on my Chiral Perturbation Theory Page.
- For supersymmetry we use the lectures by Ramond, hep-th/9412234. Many more exist, one with a bit more phenomenology is S. P. Martin, hep-ph/9709356
