Plant morphogenesis

With Henrik Jönsson I develop and implement cellular, computational models of plant growth and development, taking into account the mechanical, biochemical and genetic interactions within the cells and tissues. Together with experimental biologist we analyze influence of the mechanical signals on the different aspects of the plant morphogenesis like anisotropy of growth, deformation of cells and polar transport of hormone auxin in the apical shoot meristems of the Arabidopsis thaliana.

Mammalian development

Together with Carsten Peterson and Vijay Chickarmane I study the mechanical and genetic signals during early stages of development of a mouse embryo including specification of the trophectoderm and endoderm tissues. Our computer model allows us to analyze how the patterns of the gene expression are affected temporally and spatially by the mechanical and biochemical interactions between dividing and moving blastomers.
